Shakin' it up

Looking for some interactive fun in Martinborough? Shake things up with one of our Cocktail Classes!

Join Tonic's co-owner & lead bartender, Michael McLane, for an afternoon of shaking, stirring, layering and tasting some of our favourites from our menu.

Michael will guides you through making the drinks & provides tips on choosing & even making your own ingredients while offering up a bit of cocktail history. Shaken or stirred? What's so simple about simple syrup? Who was Count Negroni? Just what's so old fashioned about the Old Fashioned anyway? We'll talk about all of this & more all while tantalising those tastebuds with a little mixology.

We offer our introductory cocktail course periodically as well as curated classes, such as the Six Spirits series (see below). These are open to the public, but spots will be limited and booking essential.

Courses will include a welcome drink and will lead you through the process of making two drinks of your own. In some cases, you will also be able to sample variations of drinks that we will demo so you can see how different techniques affect what happens in the glass. You'll receive some of our delicious snacks to pair up with your drinks as well.

MIXOLOGY 101: Our introductory course will get you familiar with cocktail history, bar equipment and lingo. Of course, we'll also have you shaking up your own delicious drinks in no time.

SIX SPIRITS: This series focuses on each of the six categories of distilled spirits (Gin, Vodka, Rum, Brandy, Whisky and Mezcal) and the roles they play behind the bar and in the glass. Join us for your favourite or take all six.

COCKTAIL MASTERCLASS: So, you're looking for something a little more advanced? Let's play with bitters and shrubs, foams, layering and garnishes. We'll also help you come up with a cocktail of your own.
